Can You Play Dragon's Dogma 2 Without Pawns?
Pawns represent a gameplay mechanic that clearly sets the Dragon’s Dogma series apart from similar games. The way that this works is that you have your main character, called Arisen, that can control several companions called Pawns. You get to make a Main Pawn, and you can hire several other Pawns to make a formidable adventuring party that can handle just about anything thrown at them. But this overreliance on Pawns means that many players are wondering – can you even play Dragon’s Dogma 2 without Pawns? We are going to see whether or not this is something that you’ll be able to do in the game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Can You Play Without Pawns?
The short answer is – no, you can’t play Dragon’s Dogma 2 without any Pawns at all. At the minimum, you are going to need to use your Main Pawn throughout the game. You aren’t forced to get any other Pawns besides the Main Pawn, but your MP is going to stick with you for the entirety of Dragon’s Dogma 2. While there may be workarounds for this (perhaps getting your MP killed, or stuck somewhere, and so on), the game is designed in such a way that it always expects you to be a team of two – at the minimum.
A PC mod or some future update to the game may change how this works, but as of now, you won’t be able to play DD2 solo. Which is why we recommend that you think long and hard about what sort of Main Pawn you want to make. We have written several guides that explain what the best sort of Pawn is, depending on your Arisen’s Vocation. These include the Best Pawn Inclination for Mages, and what’s the Best Main Pawn for a Thief in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
