As we’ve covered in our coverage of the Cyberpunk 2077 Rides of the Dark Future trailer, the game is going to feature a bevvy of different vehicles for you to get around town. Ranging from junkers to armored trucks to Hypercars, they’re all fictional, even if they’re based on existing car models. That is, aside from one very specific, almost mythical set of wheels…
Yes, as you’ve surely surmised from the title, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to feature one real-life car, the Porsche 911 Turbo. Specifically, the model from 1977, presumably because that car will be a century old when we enter Night City. The developers have went above and beyond to fully recreate the famous vehicle down to every detail. That’s not to say that it doesn’t have any futuristic bells and whistles, of course. It features “a lidar attached to the front, a set of sensors and elements to identify the vehicle from the air, and electronic mirrors with monitors inside the vehicle.”
The most interesting detail about this beauty is that it’s actually Johnny Silverhand’s car. As Paweł Mielniczuk, Art Director of Characters, Weapons and Vehicles at CDPR put it: “Johnny’s a legend of the Cyberpunk universe. When thinking about what kind of car he’d be driving through the streets of Night City, we knew it would have to be one just as legendary as he is. Having Johnny’s story in mind, and being huge fans of Porsche ourselves, the answer could only be the classic 911 Turbo.”
In addition, Porsche actually made a “real-life and fully operational rendition” of Johnny’s wheels. It’s currently on display outside the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart until October 22nd, according to the press release. So, you have a few more days to see it, if you happen to be in the neighborhood. After that, you’ll only be able to get it once the game comes out on November 19th.
