They’re either tough to find or tough to reach, even when you know their locations. This guide will show you all secret chest locations in missions in The Division and how to get to them.

The loot you’ll get will be random, and you’ll only be able to get it once. Even replaying the mission on a harder difficulty will leave you wanting. There’s no way to loot these chests twice. Some people advise against opening them as soon as you can, since the items in some of them scale with your level. If you keep them closed until later, you’ll get stronger items. The decision is yours.

Madison Field Hospital Secret Chest

Madison Field Hospital is the first Medical Wing mission. You’ll be exploring the stadium across the street from your Base of Operations. After the elevator ride, look for a locked door on your left. There is a contaminated area behind it. The chest is at the end of the contaminated corridor. If you don’t have a lvl 2 filter, you’ll die from exposure. However, if you grab the item from the chest before you die, you get to keep it.

The loot is probably randomized, but we got a nice lvl 6 Specialized M249 B assault rifle with 1799 DPS and an underbarrel mod.

Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint Secret Chest

Lincoln Tunnel Checkpoint is one of the Security Wing missions. You can start it a block to the north-west from the Base of Operations. There’s a catwalk above the tunnel entrance. Once you’ve killed the thugs guarding it, use the rope to get up and you’ll see the chest on the left side.

Hidden Chest in Broadway Emporium

Broadway Emporium is a Medical Wing mission. It starts east of the BoO, on the edge of the Dark Zone. After you’ve cleared out the enemies from the hall, you’ll have to go into the basement to turn on the sprinklers. When you’ve done this, leave the room and go left. You’ll have to pick a lock on a door left from the collapsed corridor. The chest is the room behind that door.

Amherst Apartment Mission Chest Location

Amherst Apartment mission begins in a building in the south Clinton area. You will have to secure the entrance first by killing all of the enemies. Once you enter the building, you’ll see a flight of stairs. Climb them, turn left and you will see another staircase leading to the rooftop. There you will see an open door. Turn left as soon as you get out. The chest will be there.

Hidden Chest in Lexington Event Center

A hidden chest can be found during the Lexington Event Center mission. When you enter the building, climb the main stairway on the left and turn right. You will see a door leading to a fire escape staircase. Climb down until you reach a room with a spotlight and a number of mannequins facing away from you. The chest will be near them.

Police Academy Secret Chest

In the Police Academy mission, you need to find a distress signal and secure the garage in a police academy. When you kill all the enemies, you can enter the elevator and go up. After you encounter another wave of enemies, you will be able to look for a chest. It is found behind a white door at the end of the room, on the left. You will need a lockpick to get inside, though. As you enter, the chest will be right in front of you.

Rooftop Comm Relay Hidden Chest Location

Rooftop Comm Relay is a tech mission in Kips Bay that also helps you find another hidden chest in the game. Complete the objectives as they are given, until they say you should reach the antenna. Stay in this area and look around. The chest will be somewhere on that rooftop. It is on elevated ground, next to a dead soldier and a pair of sofas.

Subway Morgue Hidden Chest

Subway Morgue is a tech mission in The Division. Follow the mission objectives until they say “reconnect the circuit breaker.” You will be in a large room with a yellow flashing light and a mobile industrial elevator. Climb the ladder and get to a huge broken fan at the top. When you enter it, you will see a chest.

Warengate Power Plant Secret Chest

Warengate Power Plant is a tech mission that gives you access to a secret chest in the area. When you complete the mission, you will find yourself in a control room with a Power Plant ECHO in it. Right next to it, there will be a chest.

Times Square Power Relay Chest

The next chest can be obtained at the location before you even start the Times Square Power Relay mission. Simply go down Broadway Street to Times Square and climb the staircase behind a statue. Look for the chest on the second level of stairs, behind an American flag.

Grand Central Station Hidden Chest

This chest is found during the Grand Central Station mission. It is located on the south side, at the top floor. Find the staircase with a “Murray Hill” sign on the left and NYC Subway map on the right. Climb to the top and get into the room with “High Voltage” warning signs. The chest will be at the end of the room.

Secret Chest in Russian Consulate

You will find this chest during the Russian Consulate mission. Once you get to the main hall, go through the heavy door next to an open laptop on a table. On the right, you will see eight surveillance monitors. The chest will be on the right, next to a Russian flag.

General Assembly Mission Hidden Chest

In the General Assembly mission, you will find the chest as soon as you enter the United Nations building. Once inside, turn left and jump over the counter with guns displayed in the back. When you turn left, you will see a lot of chests. The one right in front of you, placed on a wooden crate is the secret chest you need.
