Not sure how to get Heavy Runic Attacks in God of War Ragnarok? Once you start playing GOW Ragnarok you’ll soon realize that many familiar mechanics from the original game are back in Ragnarok. This includes Runic Attacks – special weapon enchantments which provide unique skills for your weapons. And just like in 2018’s God of War, each weapon has two available runic slots, one for light attacks and the second for heavy attacks. However, in Ragnarok, it seems that finding the second type isn’t as easy as it could be. Worry not, as in this guide, we explain when will you get Heavy Runic Attacks in God of War Ragnarok, and the locations for some of them.
Where to Find Heavy Runic Attacks in God of War Ragnarok
Runic Attacks usually provide bonus physical and elemental damage (based on your weapon). And on top of that – some additional abilities, like stuns or AoE effects. You’ll start getting Light Runic Attacks for the Leviathan axe and for the Blades of Chaos quite early in the game. However, you’ll know about GoW Ragnarok Heavy Runic Attacks from the get-go, but you will not know where to find them. So, did you miss them? Are they hidden somewhere? Well, most of them are located in legendary chests scattered around. Furthermore, these chests usually require some puzzle-solving and thinking outside the box. But in this case, the reason why you can’t find them is that they will start appearing later. Only after around 20 to 30 hours of gameplay, you’ll encounter your first Heavy Runic Attack.
Mists of Helheim Location God of War Ragnarok
You’ll find the first one in the realm of Vanaheim, inside the legendary chest in the Cliffside Ruins subregion. In order to reach it, you’ll need to ride your boat further down the stream until your reach Goddess Falls. There, as can be seen on our map, you’ll find a hidden region. This hidden region is called The Veiled Passage. While you’re here, you’ll also find items needed to finish the Mysterious Orb favour. Just continue following that path, and you’ll eventually reach the other side of a drawbridge. That’s exactly where the legendary chest is located, with the Mists of Helheim Axe Heavy Runic Attack inside.
Now, ask Freya to place Sigil Arrows so that they connect with the flame pots below the gold stones. Use your blades to explode them, and they will remove the gold rocks, opening the way to reach the Legendary Chest with your very first Heavy Runic Attack! So there you have it, that’s when will you get the first one. Later on, you’ll also get Ivaldi’s Anvil, Fog of Fimbulwinter, Leviathan’s Roar, Nemean Crush, and many others.
