Injustice 2 Introducing Joker Gameplay Trailer Up Now

Another day, another Injustice 2 gameplay trailer. The latest reveal, which has already been kinda spoil, is the Joker himself. He’s a huge enigma as always, especially considering Superman killed him in the previous Injustice. His fighting style is hectic, maniacal and really violent, as is only right for the Joker. He also uses a variety of his party tricks, such as gas bombs and exploding presents.

A little while ago, we wrote about how the Injustice 2 achievement list revealed the Joker. As it turns out, that wasn’t that much of a spoiler after all, since NetherRealm Studios announced him as a playable character days later. The Joker also got an accompanying gameplay trailer, showcasing his chaotic fighting “style”.

Unlike the other characters that actually have some combat prowess, the Joker fights like a desperate maniac that has nothing to lose, so huge props for accuracy there. His main weapon of choice is a kitchen knife, and he can stab enemies multiple times in quick succession. He also uses a bunch of other tricks. For example, exploding gifts, a deadly joke buzzer, and a gun that fires a “BANG!” flag, that the shoots the flag into the opponent.

He also has canisters of his trademark laughing gas, which he can throw at opponents to stun them. He can also beat an enemy over the head with a canister, then shoot them with a comically oversized revolver (much like he has in Tim Burton’s Batman).

Speaking of which, some of his moves seem to be direct references to the many atrocities he’s committed over the years. One of his moves is a savage beatdown with a crowbar. This probably harkens back to the time he beat Jason Todd (then Robin) to death with one. The new Robin even references that event in the opening. Joker’s supermove, where he knocks the opponent into an electric chair, slams them with the crowbar and then electrifies them before setting off a bunch of dynamite under them, also seems to hint heavily at that moment. You can check out the video below.

The most interesting point of discussion is: who could this Joker be? Has he risen from the grave? Is it another Joker from an alternate reality, or perhaps a copycat? There seem to be no hints, and I guess the only way to find out is to play. My money is that it’s another old Robin, Tim Drake, like in Batman Beyond.

Injustice 2 will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 16th, 2017. You’ll also be able to get the Injustice 2 Mobile app for iOS and Android devices.
