Fertile mud is one of the ten thousand crafting materials in Monster Hunter World. It’s rare, and pretty difficult to obtain. On the other hand, it’s required when upgrading some gear, so you probably won’t be able to get around collecting it. Although it sounds like it should be collected from nodes, it’s actually harvested from a pretty impressive beast. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to get fertile mud in Monster Hunter World.

How to get fertile mud in MHW?

The only way to get fertile mud is to scrape it off a Barroth, a pretty big brute living in the Wildspire Wastes. The Barroth is coated in mud, which acts as a shield. The muddy exterior has a weakness to water, so use a water-based weapon to get it off. The Barroth is also highly susceptible to poison, paralysis and blast. In some cases, simply following it around and staying out of its way can reward you with a handful of fertile mud here and there.

We’ve also received it from Tailrider Safari missions a couple of times, but that’s neither reliable nor voluminous. If you a lot of it and fast, locking horns with a Barroth is the way to go.
