Beyond Good and Evil 2 announcement trailer just closed Ubisoft’s conference

That was certainly a show that closed with a bang – a beautiful trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 layed out some of the characters for the game. It appears that this will be a prequel and not a sequel, but at this moment, who could complain?

The original game was published 14 years ago. The action-adventure game had puzzle elements as well as stealth gameplay. Jade, the protagonist, an investigative reporter (and martial artist) cooperated with a resistance movement in order to uncover an alien conspiracy. The game failed commercially, however, it was critically acclaimed and later on became a cult title. HD editions were published for Xbox 360 and PS3 and the rumors of a sequel have been going on for ages. Finally, it has been confirmed.

The game seems to be set before the birth of Jade. The time is the 24th century and the solar system it takes place in is System 3. People from old Earth have migrated here, with limited resources and a multi-ethnic civilization. In the words of the game’s creative director, Michel Ancel: “We’re creating a sci-fi space opera, a game where players fight for freedom alongside unforgettable characters and explore a stunning and vast solar system, all while capturing the spirit of Beyond Good and Evil.”

Currently not a lot is known about the game, but the creators are trying to make a “seamless online playground” for people to enjoy, alone or with friends. They are also encouraging people to participate in the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2 through their “Space Monkey Program”. If you follow the link, do not be surprised if it is unresponsive – people have been waiting for this game for quite a long time and the server couldn’t handle it.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 announcement is easily the freshest and best looking announcement trailer out there. It is up for the developers now to live up to the hype. It won’t be easy.
