Guardians of the Galaxy gets the Telltale treatment

Marvel’s runaway hit of 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy, is getting a game of its own. It is a Telltale game, so that should give you a clue what to expect. Solid writing, interesting and varied storylines, but also quick time events and (potentially) no real difference in your decision making.

Unfortunately, none of the original cast provided the voices for Telltale’s game, which is saddening. It will be difficult to get used to the new Starlord’s voice, even if the shenanigans are on par with the original. If you do recognize someone, it will be Rocket Racoon, whose voice will be that of Nolan North, of Uncharted fame. Judging by the trailer, the Guardians will be taking on none other than Thanos.

If anyone can emulate the actual vibe of the movies, it is Telltale. It would be interesting to see them perhaps take the story in an unexpected direction, as they did with their Batman series, for example. Let’s face it, at this moment it can go both ways, as Telltale are perhaps taking too much on their hands, juggling a huge number of different projects. And the tech they are using is not really improving either.

The movie is getting ready for the second round on May 5, inevitably running towards joining the Avengers some time in the future, while the game’s first episode will launch on April 18th. The retail edition, which is coming out on May 5 just like the movie, will still contain only the one episode, as well as a Season Pass code for the fans to download the episodes as they come out.

The first episode, Tangled Up in Blue, launches on PS4, Xbox One, PC, as well as iOS and Android, and it will set you back $4.99.
