Given the sheer size of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it’s no wonder that it contains so many special items. Sometimes, these are easy to find, and sometimes, they require a lot of work to acquire. The Metal Coat is one such item. It empowers Steel-type moves, and is required for the evolution of certain Pokemon. Like many items in BDSP, there are several methods you can use to get a hold of it, and in this How to Get Metal Coat Pokemon BDSP guide, we will go over all of them.
How to Get Metal Coat Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
First, let’s go over the guaranteed method. Once you have gotten the National Dex, you can then go to Iron Island. Once there, talk with Byron in his hut and he will give you the Metal Coat. Of course, to be able to get it like this, you will have needed to complete the main story in the game. Naturally, this will take you a lot of time. If you want to get it a lot earlier, you will need to do some good old-fashioned grinding.
This grinding is going to take place in the Grand Underground. So, go there. What you need to look for here are three particular Pokemon. These are: Bronzor, Magnemite, and Beldum. The first two will become available here as soon as you have obtained the Explorer’s Kit from Eterna City. There is a small chance that one of these will be holding on to the Metal Coat when you catch it, allowing you to get it this way.
Which Pokemon Require the Metal Coat to Evolve in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
The two Pokemon that need the Metal Coat for their evolutions are Onix, which uses it to evolve into Steelix, and Scyther, which requires this item to be able to evolve to Scizor.
