Pokemon GO Update 0.55 Android & 1.25 iOS Datamine

The newest update for Pokemon GO, at least on the surface, brings fairly bog-standard improvements to the game. However, dataminers from The Silk Roads immediately got to digging around the game’s code. Unsurprisingly, they’ve found some very interesting stuff hiding in there. Let’s go over what update 0.55 on Android / 1.25 on iOS has in store for us.

To be fair, the update does bring some very welcome updates. You can find the list of official fixes below.

  • Reduced the starting load time on Android devices.
  • Resolved Android connectivity issues for the Pokemon GO Plus accessory.
  • Integrated iOS wheelchair support for use with Apple Watch.
  • Minor text fixes.

Under the surface, however, is where the true meat lies. This particular update doesn’t hide as much as some did, but it’s very much worth looking into. Take a look at the list below.

  • Critical Capture
This feature will probably function like Critical Hit does in Gym battles. Its purpose will no doubt be making catching Pokemon much easier. I’m going to assume that it will take one or more random elements from the capturing mechanic, like the number of shakes.
  • Unown Badge and Candy Award
The newest badge added to the game is for Unown. There’s well over twenty different models of the Pokemon in the game, so it makes sense Niantic would set the stage early. You can find out more about Unown in our Pokemon GO Evolution Items & Unown Forms article.

We don’t know much about the Candy Award, but it seems that it’ll be a brand new item in the game. It might even turn out to be a whole new class of items. We’ll have to wait until more information becomes available, but we’ll keep you posted.
  • New Sponsor Logos
There are four new sponsor logos that’ll be arriving in the game, probably soon. They are: HOOD, MIXER, SLOWCOOKER and STEAMER.

That’s all dataminers could get out of the new update. With a little luck, the following update will bring even more interesting code to sift through. We’ll be sure to inform you as soon as it comes out!
