You have to play two hours of the game to get the Growlithe Kimono set. This allows you to access the mystery gifts menu. If you play the game before May 9th, 2022, then you get access to the outfit.

Press up on the controller to access the menu option. Use ZR to ZL button to locate the communication setting. You will find the mystery gifts option here.

This will be where you can put codes in to redeem goods. For this, if you connect to the internet then you should see the option to claim your rewards. While you do need an internet connection, you do not need a Nintendo Switch online membership.
