XCOM 2 War of The Chosen Video Introduces The Assassin

There’s a new trailer for XCOM 2: War of The Chosen, and it introduces players to the Assassin, one of the alien generals that will hunt the player in the upcoming expansion. Although it’s a bit on the short side, the video does explain the background and abilities of the new alien combatant.

War of The Chosen is the upcoming DLC for XCOM 2. Among other things, it’s going to add the eponymous Chosen to the game – they’re unique alien generals, sent to capture and bring the commander back to the Elders. Each of them will have a unique personality and skill set – this time, we’re getting to know the Assassin.

The Assassin sees herself as the true heir of our world. The Elders have offered up the planet to her, in exchange for you. We’ve seen her use a shotgun, a special sword crafted by the Elders, and smoke grenades. She can turn invisible, and we expect she has bonuses for being inside smoke and attacking from the back. One of her abilities allows her to send a wave of dark energy that does damage to everyone in its path, while another lets her suck out energy from your fallen comrades, possibly to heal or strengthen herself. The trailer implies she’s going to try and kidnap your soldiers from time to time, in order to interrogate them and gain the upper hand.

The expansion is also going to add new human factions with heroes of their own, a new enemy type that can copy your soldiers, covert actions (hopefully similar to the ones from the first game), and more.

XCOM 2: War of The Chosen is coming on August 29th, to PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4. You’ll need to own XCOM 2 in order to play it.
