How to Get Ladder & Climb Cliffs in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Animal Crossing New Horizons Ladder is an essential item that you have to get in order to climb cliffs. The Ladder in Animal Crossing New Horizons is necessary to reach areas of the island that are previously unreachable. However, you have to go through a lot in order to finally get the Ladder in ACNH, and many players are confused as to what exactly they need to do to unlock them. That’s exactly what we’ll show you in our How to Get Ladder & Climb Cliffs in Animal Crossing New Horizons guide.

How and When Do You Get Ladders in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

You get Ladders in Animal Crossing New Horizons at the earliest on the fourth day of the game, and there’s a number of steps that you have to follow. The first thing you have to do is fly off to a different island as soon as you can (the price is 2,000 Nook Miles per ticket at the Nook Stop in Residents Services after paying off your moving fees). This new island is small and randomly-generated. Sometimes, this island is gonna have a lonely castaway. Talk with them until they say that they want to move to your town. Accept their request.

After you do this enough times (one new resident might be enough, but you might need three), Nook will eventually tell you to build a bridge. He’ll also give you a recipe to do so; you’ll need 4 Clay, 4 Stone, and 4 Log Stakes. Choose a place to build a bridge, and then build it. Note: it can also happen that Nook tells you to start putting plots for new residents even before you start inviting them.

The next step is to place three lots for the new residents. Make sure that there’s enough room for all of them. If possible, place them near each other to make things easier on yourself. If you can’t, that’s fine too. When you put the three lots down, you’ll have to craft and collect a whole bunch of stuff to furnish their future houses. Among other things, you’ll need flowers that you can’t reach without Ladders. So, Nook will give you a call and send you a recipe for Ladders. You’ll need 4 Wood, 4 Hardwood, and 4 Softwood to make them.

To use the Ladders, equip them into your hand and press A facing a cliff, similarly to the Vaulting Pole. One last thing that I have to mention about the Ladders in Animal Crossing New Horizons: this item has to be crafted. There is no way to buy them. However, if you have a friend that has unlocked the recipe for Ladders, they can then craft a second set of Ladders for you as a gift.

You’re wrong on the timing. I picked up 3 new residents from the random tours on day one. Day 2 (today) I got the bridge started, and placed down two plots (out of 3). This is the point Nook called me to give me the ladder recipe. It doesn’t take until the 4th day, as I have it now on the second day.

I only have 2 fellow residents although I have invited at least 4 others from trips to other islands. So far none of them have joined me (idk why I’m very friendly!) and Mr Nook has not instructed me to build a bridge let alone given me plans for a ladder. Any suggestions?? I’m on day 6.
