First off, the ranged combat. This is the dystopian future, after all, so there will be guns aplenty. According to associate design director Kyle Rowley (via GameSpot), there will be three types of guns: Power, Tech, and Smart. Power weapons are kinda like the high-impact guns we have today. They hit hard, and they hurt a lot. Tech weapons, on the other hand, focus on punching holes through walls, objects, and people. So, that sounds fun. Lastly, Smart weapons have the ability to track and follow enemies.

As Rowley explains it, these types of weapons are there in order to cater to different play styles. People have been wondering whether Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be an FPS with RPG elements or an RPG with FPS elements. Rowley puts it pretty straight: “It’s a role-playing game with some shooter elements, rather than a shooter with role-playing laid on top of it. There’s very deep progression systems, so all the things you’d expect from a CD Projekt game.” So, you’ll have Smart weapons that make the FPS part easier for people who are there for the role-playing aspect. If you are apt at FPS fast-reflex gameplay, you can use the other types. A little something for everyone.

Of course, Cyberpunk 2077 will also have melee combat. Rowley brings up the fact that CDPR has a lot of experience with melee combat fro the Witcher series. Of course, things are going to have to be much different due to the switch to first-person, but that experience is definitely going to come in handy. Overall, it sounds like combat is gonna be pretty fun in Cyberpunk 2077 It better be, considering it will be a pretty significant part of the game.
