This guide will show you how to play coop in Dark Souls 3 and how to summon friends.

Dark Souls 3 Co-op

If you’re looking for help defeating a difficult boss, here’s how to summon:

  • Use an Ember. This will increase your maximum health by a certain percentage until you die, and allow you to summon other players.
  • Look for white summon signs. They look like glowing white runes etched into the ground. They can mostly be found around bonfires and near boss fog doors. You can only summon others into areas where you haven’t yet killed the boss.
  • Stand on the sign to see the player it belongs to. Interact with it to summon the player into your world.
  • Repeat up to three times if you think it’s necessary. Keep in mind, the boss’ health scales with the number of players, so summoning a bunch of people can sometimes turn out to be detrimental.
If you’re looking to help others through a rough patch, here’s how to be summoned:

  • Get a White Sign Soapstone. This will let you leave a summoning symbol. You can buy it from the Handmaid for a small amount of souls.
  • Choose an area where you want to offer help. Leave your summon sign in a place where it’s visible – near a bonfire that’s close to the boss, or in front of the fog door are good spots.
  • Wait for someone to summon you, then do your best to help them.

How to Summon Friends in Dark Souls 3

The process is mainly the same as summoning random people, only there’s a password system in place that lets you share the pass key with others and meet up with them in the game. If you use the password to summon friends, the game will disregard any differences in you Soul Level or the amount of weapon reinforcements. You’ll be paired no matter what, while the game makes some adjustments to the phantom’s strength in order to match yours more closely.

Troubles while summoning friends

If you have troubles while summoning friends leave the area, and then put the signal again after it disappears.
You can change System-> Network -> Cross-region play to Matchmaking ON.

If you draw the true strength and go hollow, you are unable to co op with more than 1 friend at a time, even if you reverse the effect. When one person is summoned, the other’s sign will immediately disappear. We had no problems up until this point. I am doing a full co op with two buddies, and we had to start the entire game over again because of this. WHY IS THIS NOT LISTED ANYWHERE YET?

I’ve noticed this, although I haven’t tried curing the curse. Did you have your dark sigil cured or did you just purge the accumulated curse from you restoring your human form (until you eventually hollow once more)

If you buy the tower key, you will have access to the tower in the shrine link, where you get an item that you can give to the firekeeper and she will heal the dark sigil. But this will compromise the hollowing questline
