Frozen Wilds Bug Makes Players Lose XP & Skills in Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn’s first DLC, The Frozen Wilds, has been released today. Most people are enjoying it without hindrance, exploring the frozen wastes of The Cut and trying to figure out what made the machines go haywire. However, a certain portion of the playerbase is experiencing issues. Most notably, there’s a bug that makes Aloy lose experience points and skills. It’s a nasty thing that influences progression, but there is hope.

According to a report from reddit user Swirly_7, the bug first manifested itself by showing a negative xp score. When they checked the skills, it turned out that all of the new Frozen Wild skills disappeared, even though a number of them were unlocked. Loss of XP and skills makes Alloy much weaker and potentially unable to deal with the challenges she’s presented with.

The bright side is that the bug only affects the from the moment it appears, which means loading an older save file will fix it. Make sure you keep an eye on your XP bar and skills. Check them from time to time, especially before you do a manual save. Other than that, there’s not much you can do. Exercise caution and hope for good fortune. If you’re vigilant, the bug won’t take too much of a toll – a mission or two perhaps, which really isn’t tragic.

Guerilla Games are already aware of the problem – their community manager appeared in the reddit thread, asking for more info about the problem Swirly_7 was having. Best case scenario, the devs are already on it, looking to get to the bottom of the issue. It’s still unclear whether it’s a DLC issues, or something to do with the latest patch. We’ll update the post with more info as it surfaces.

Apparently patch 1.41 already fixed the issue, so if people update it should fix the problem/prevent it happening 🙂
