Pokemon GO Magikarp Spotlight Hour

The Pokemon GO Magikarp Spotlight Hour is going to take place on Tuesday, May 17th, from 6 PM to 7 PM local server time. That means that both regular and shiny Magikarp (more on that in the next section) will be spawning more often, as is always the case in these events. The bonus is double evolution XP, meaning you’ll get twice is much for every Pokemon you evolve. Obviously, all of the bonuses from the ongoing Water Festival still apply.

On top of that, there’s also some hidden “benefits” to this. For one, you can use it to progress the Fisher medal. Save every Magikarp that’s heavier than about 13 kg and trade them with people. Second, if you have Mega Blastoise, Gyarados or Slowbro, you can get extras for them whenever you catch a Water-type Pokemon. This is your chance to catch a whole bunch of those.

Can Magikarp Be Shiny?

Yes, Magikarp can absolutely be shiny in Pokemon GO, so the upcoming Spotlight Hour will be a perfect chance to grab more of them. Or, indeed, your first one. You’ll recognize a shiny Magikarp fairly easily, since it’s a bright yellow rather than orange, as shown in the image above. Obviously, the same goes for Magikarp’s evolution, Gyarados, which is a bright red color instead of blue. So, all in all, this is a pretty good Spotlight Hour, all things considered. As we’ve detailed above, it can be very useful in several different ways. Even if you’re not a fan of these events, maybe consider giving this one a go.
