Naughty Dog has been very careful about keeping The Last Of Us 2 under wraps. The most they gave us is the fantastic trailer at PlayStation Experience. Everything else is the object of speculation, but that’s the best we have, really. Many are guessing at the release date of The Last Of Us 2, the technical specs, and the plot. In order to try and answer some of those questions, let’s take a look at what we know so far about The Last Of Us 2.
The Last Of Us 2 Trailer
Before we begin, we should mention that Naughty Dog have dangled TLOU 2 in front of our noses a few months ago. It was on a limited edition poster. Nobody noticed it then, but it’s pretty obvious now that we’ve seen the trailer We’ve covered how Naughty Dog teased The Last Of Us 2 in a separate article, but it bears repeating.
Now, regarding the trailer, some things are apparent immediately. We can hazard a guess that Ellie will be a playable character, maybe even the protagonist. She’s older now, with a serious chip on her shoulder. The trailer shows her playing a haunting country song about bloody revenge, amidst a bunch of corpses. We can safely assume that she’s killed them all, since she’s covered in blood and her knuckles are cracked. Joel walks in and asks her if she’ll really go through with “this”. She replies that she will find and kill every last one of “them”.
There’s an obvious shift in tone and character dynamics. While the game certainly promises to be as bleak as the first one, it seems to hint at a Western-type revenge story. Joel doesn’t appear to be a fatherly figure anymore, at least not like in the first game.
But, the biggest change is in Ellie herself, not just in that she’s older and has a tattoo hiding her bite mark. What I’m talking about is her character; it’s radically different. She’s dark and cold, fueled by anger. She’s hellbent to follow through with this rampage that she’s started. I don’t know about you, but it’s deeply unsettling to me. Maybe we’ll get to play the segment that shows how she became that way.
The Last Of Us 2 Release Date & System Requirements
We don’t know yet what the system specs of TLOU 2 will be. However, it’s pretty safe to assume that it will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, anyway. This is the case with all Naughty Dog titles since 1996’s Crash Bandicoot, so it”s unlikely anything will change now.
There’s no release date set as of now. However, we can rest assured that we won’t be seeing Ellie and Joel in the foreseeable future. At best, we can hope to see them in 2018. However, since Naughty Dog are still working on Uncharted 4 DLC, we might even have to wait as long as 2021.
