Although we have expected solid numbers from Sony regarding their gaming section, the numbers are still pretty astounding. Sony has shared their sales on PS4, PS4 Pro, PS VR and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Persona 5 is another Sony exclusive that did very well.
  • Worldwide sales for PlayStation 4 are “almost” 60 million. Sony announced 60 million total shipments in its fiscal year ended March 31, 2017 report.
  • PlayStation VR has sold one million PlayStation VR headsets since its launch in October 2016. It sold 915,000 units in its first three months, meaning at least an additional 85,000 units have been sold since February 19.
  • One in five PlayStation 4 consoles sold since November have been a PlayStation 4 Pro.
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn has sold 3.4 million copies since its launch on February 28. It sold 2.6 million in its first two weeks, meaning an additional 800,000 units were sold since March 16./li>

The first and the last one in the list are probably the least surprising. Sony has been going strong since the start of Playstation 4 sales, while Horizon: Zero Dawn has been a critical darling and a runaway hit of early 2017. The game, developed by Killzone creators, Guerrilla Games, currently holds the Metacritic score of 89 and user score of 8.3.

Sony has also announced a sale on Playstation Store, from June 9 to 17, with “huge” sales on software and hardware, called “Days of Play”. The promotion will also see a golden, limited version of Playstation 4, sold for $249.

This might be just the thing to boost sales even further, as the latest PS Plus offers were not the greatest. Free games for June include Killing Floor 2, a coop zombie shooter, and Life is Strange, a critically acclaimed time-manipulating adventure game by Dontnod.

All in all, it would be nice to see Sony not resting on their laurels and doing a little more as the world’s leading console maker.
