When will Destiny 2 launch?

Destiny 2 will launch on September 6th, at midnight you local time, according to the official blog post. This means that the game will unlock much earlier in, say, Japan or Australia, than in the USA. While many western fans will probably be bummed that they won’t be able to play Destiny 2 at the same time as everyone else, at least you’ll be able to wet your appetite as you follow the launch in other countries. On the other hand, if you want to avoid spoilers, you should probably just go offline until midnight your local time.

The reason Bungie has decided on a rolling launch is probably to avoid server overload. Destiny 2 opening at the same time all across the globe could cause a lot of problems, and, let’s face it, they don’t have the best launches. A rolling launch will allow for the servers to go up gradually, and that should make the whole thing go much more smoothly. Also, depending on your location, you might get to play the game earlier than midnight. According to the blog post, Guardians all across the US will be able to play Destiny 2 starting midnight Eastern Time. So, if you live on the west coast, Destiny 2 will launch at 9 PM for you, on September 5th. See, it’s not all bad.
