How to Fix Screen Tearing in Elden Ring

To fix screen tearing in Elden Ring, the first thing you should try is to play in borderless windowed mode. That seems to help a lot. Also, be sure to update your graphics drivers; that seems to be one of the potential causes for the screen tearing and other visual problems. Another thing that appears to completely erase the problem is turning V-Sync on. Judging by the people on Reddit, this has solved the issue for many of them. Here’s how to do that.

If you have an Nvidia card, open the Nvidia Control Panel. Under the 3D Settings tab on the left, select Manage 3D Settings. If you want to enable V-sync across the board, click the Global Settings tab and scroll down to Vertical Sync and change it to Use the 3D application Setting. If you want to enable it for Elden Ring only, click the Program Settings tab and select Elden Ring from the list. You might need to add it to the list manually. Next, to hopefully fix the Elden Ring screen tearing, after you’ve selected Elden Ring from the list, find Vertical Sync and switch it to either On or Use the 3D application Setting.

Those of you that have an AMD GPU, go into AMD Radeon Software and click the Settings button (aka the little cog wheel in the top right). Go into the Graphics tab, then scroll down to the Wait for Vertical Refresh option. Change that to Off, unless application specifies. That should take care of the screen tearing problem. If you know of any other solution that has worked for you, tell us in the comments.

Very early in your exploration of Elden Ring world you will find out that you need to prepare your character for different tasks. You'll need to learn how to use Ashes of War, how to two-hand weapons, or use magic spells during the course of your adventures. Many secrets are also waiting for you, such as, a hostile NPC Sellen that doesn't let you see her shop, an invisible man in a bush, or a huge turtle with a bell that lets you duplicate some very important items.
