Exotic engrams are drops in Destiny 2. They’re guaranteed to drop a piece of exotic gear, which makes them highly sought after. The only problems is that they’re rare. You can spend days grinding heroic public events and only end up with a couple. On the upside, there’s an item that improves your chances of getting one. How to increase exotic gear drop rate?

In order to increase the drop rate of exotic engrams and gear, you’ll have to use and item called Fireteam Medallion. These increase the XP gain and drop quality for everyone in your fireteam, and they’re valid in public events, crucible and strikes. Obviously, they’re consumables, and each lasts four hours. We still haven’t had the chance to check whether their effects stack, so use one per fireteam. More could be a waste. Once you’ve popped a medallion, go farm heroic public events.

If you haven’t seen them already, you can buy them from Tess Everis, the Eververse trader. You’re going to need bright dust – a special currency you obtain by dismantling certain items gained from bright engrams (like ships and sparrows), or by investing real money into the game. A legendary ship can be dismantle for anywhere between 100 and 200 bright dust, while a single medallion costs 50.

Since you get a bright engram every time you fill up your experience bar after level 20, you probably already have a rather nice collection of cosmetic items. Still, don’t waste fireteam medallions, try to farm together with friends and clanmates – this way you won’t have to waste time looking for players, and you can coordinate medallion usage so that you get the most out of your collective bright dust.
