Destiny 2 Shadowkeep Temporarily At Capacity & Steam Unpacking

Steam unpacking for a long time and a series of “Destiny 2 servers are temporarily at capacity” issues have been holding people back from playing Shadowkeep. And, even when they manage to jump all of those hurdles, there’s still a chance you’ll run into Error Code Weasel. This can happen if the game thinks you’re attempting to log in to multiple platforms at the same time with cross-save enabled. It’s a bit of a situation, overall, and one hopes that it will clear up soon.

Steam Unpacking & Destiny 2 Temporarily at Capacity Barring Guardians from Playing – Error Code Weasel

Growing pains are not something you’d expect from a game that’s two years old. But, that’s the nature of the beast when it comes to live services like Destiny 2. Now that the game has made its way to Steam, and that the Shadowkeep expansion is bringing in a huge percentage of the player base back, servers are clogged. Pardon me, temporarily at capacity. It’s happening across every platform and launcher. And, to add to the aggravation, the game takes its sweet time to unpack on Steam. And, of course, there’s Error Code Weasel.

Obviously, there’s nothing you can do to combat these problems. Before you can run the game on Steam, you’ll have to sit through the unpacking process for a long time. It took us well over twenty minutes; I sincerely hope it won’t be that bad for you. But, if forum posts are to be believed, they definitely will be. Then, when that is finally over and done with, expect to smack right into a wall of temporarily-at-capacity servers. Several walls, in fact. The first one is when you boot it up, the second is before the cross-save popup, and then, after the third one, you’ll be in the game.

That is, unless you run into Error Code Weasel. You should only get this error message if you, and I quote: “attempt to log in to multiple platforms simultaneously while Cross Save is enabled on their account” on whichever platform you logged into first. This, I assume, is due to some problem between Steam and Bungie, but I could be wrong. The point is, if you run into Weasel, make sure you’re not logged in on another platform. Then, you’ll have to start everything again. I am so, so sorry.

I might have counted wrong, and I’m sure that you’ll correct me politely in the comments. The bottom line is, at the time of writing, getting into Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is a nightmare. I wish you all the best of luck. See you in the game, Guardians. Eventually.
