We have some more guides about problems with settlements:Fallout 4 How to power up a house

How to turn on the lights and TV

  1. Build a generator. You can choose between small, medium and large generators, depending on amount of crafting ingredients that you have. Powering up a house only uses up 1 power regardless of how many lights / TV you have in the house.
  2. Connect Generator to switch. To connect the power lines, press SPACE on the keyboard (Y (XboxOne) / Triangle (PS4))
  3. Attach Switch to wall outside
  4. House becomes powered up – lights are on, TV. etc..

Possible problems

If you have a big house, it will be harder for power to reach from one side of the house to the other. Only the lights that are closest to the generator will work, because each point in the electrical network provides power in a radius around it.

If you want to properly do it, put either small conduits or power pylons along the top of the building or across the side, whichever is more aesthetically pleasing to you.
Use large power pylons as your main tool for getting power from your generator over long distances. They can connect wires over the longest distance between A and B. Small power pylons are the same with a medium wire reach. Stick these between buildings (or on top if you prefer them over conduits for powering your building, for aesthetic reasons) and connect your conduits to them.
We would like to thank illage2 , Vancocillin, TheronNett, and The_Redditective for solutions.

Thanks for the mention. To be honest when I figured it out I actually thought everyone knew about it, but I was looking at the Fallout subreddit and was seeing people asking how to power up a house.

Thank YOU for sharing such a great tip with Fallout community!

Great tip, but how do you install conduits or pylons on the roof of a house? I used conduits around the roof legend like Christmas lights, but it looks terrible lol. How are you able to reach the roof and install up there?

You can just temporarily place cabinets/furniture/whatever to build yourself a staircase of stuff to hop up on the roof. That way you can place conduits in a less visible location. It’s also good for putting turrets on the roof of a building so it has a larger field of fire.

        1. P

You can build a staircase under wood-MISC

    3. K

Thank you for the tip! I played the Fallout app. and knew that I needed energy, so I was going crazy trying to figure it out. Do you know how to attach a wire to a windmill without putting it on a house and connecting it to a switch? That’s the only way I can get it to work. :-/

  2. A

Switches and power conduits have a power radius to them, they will light everything in a certain distance,

  3. S

Is there a way to give a powered t.v set some kind of programming? It would be cool to see a pre war broadcast on the screen or something. The please stand by screen doesn’t make for much post-nuclear entertainment.
