If you’ve played the Destiny 2 Beta, you might have noticed something a little odd in the end of the first mission. Without spoiling too much, something pretty bad happens to our protagonist, and they reach out in horror and despair. It’s a hard-hitting silent moment. Too silent. The guardian remains completely silent. Not a single yell, or scream, or grunt. Nothing. It’s really weird. If you’ve missed it, you’ll have a chance to check it out during the Destiny 2 PC beta.

Now, the mute protagonist is nothing new in Destiny ever since vanilla. However, fans have been speculating whether or not Bungie will continue this way. Well, according to Luke Smith’s AMA on IGN, yes, they will. Your guardian will stay mute in Destiny 2; that’s not just a feature of the Beta.

The news broke on the Destiny 2 subreddit by Redditor arbiterrecon, and the reaction of the community so far is kinda polarized, as you’d expect. One side agrees with Bungie’s choice, mostly citing how a silent protagonist helps with roleplaying and immersion. Others are against this move, saying that it makes the cutscenes “awkward”. In truth, both sides bring pretty good arguments. What’s your opinion on the subject? Share your thoughts in the comments.
