Red Dead Redemption 2 Fast Travel – Stagecoach, Train, Camp

How to fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2?

There are four ways to fast travel in RDR 2 – the stagecoach, the train, the camp map and autopilot. You can put your horse on autopilot, telling it to go towards the waypoint marked on the map and hold Touchpad / View-Button. This isn’t any faster than steering yourself, though, it just requires less input.

The stagecoach connects a lot of places on the map, and it’s pretty cheap. The downside is that you need to be a law-abiding citizen if you want to use it – if there’s a price on your head, you won’t be allowed on. Also, it can only take you to places you’ve already visited, so it’s kind of limited. You can hail a stagecoach by interacting with the green sign at the stop.

The train is much better, but it’s also a bit more pricey. You’ll need to buy a ticket at the ticketmaster’s office, and you’ll be allowed to ride no matter your legal situation. You’ll also be able to visit any place on the map that has a train station, regardless of whether you’ve already been there. However, not all towns are connected to each other by railway, so you might have to change trains at some point.

Finally, there’s the camp map. It only becomes available later, after you’ve bought certain upgrades, but it will allow you to get free fast travel – only in one direction, though. Interact with it, select a location and you’ll be instantly transported there. You’ll have to get back on your own, but at least half of the journey will be free.

How to unlock free fast travel in RDR2?

After you complete the Money Lending and other Sins story mission in chapter 2, you’ll unlock the ledger that allows you to upgrade your camp. Select the lodging category and buy First Things First and Next in Line. The latter is the one that unlocks the map. It’ll cost you around $550 in total. You’ll be able to find the map on the side of the coach behind Arthur’s tent.
