When you stray too far away from your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, it can’t hear you whistle. This means that if you leave it behind and forget to call it back every so often, you’ll end up too far away from it, and then you’ll have to walk. Since the walking and running speeds in RDR2 are terribly low, you’ll probably want to chew your hands off at this point. Thankfully, there are ways around this limitation. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to retrieve horse when it’s too far away to whistle in Red Dead Redemption 2.
How to get back horse outside of whistle range?
We’ve all been there – you get caught up in the moment, stalking a deer in the forest then going to explore a hut on the horizon, then discovering a city on the other side of the hill and ending up tied in a side quest that takes hours to finish. Before you know it, your horse is nowhere to be found and it isn’t responding to your whistles. You can see the tiny icon on the map, but it’s farther away than you thought was possible. The higher your bond level, the bigger the whistle radius, but you’ll still end up in situations like this more often than you’d like.
Instead of walking back to your mount, which could take days in real time, you can just go to the nearest stable by any means at your disposal. You’ll be able to pick your horse from the stable any time you visit, so you just need to get there – you can use one of the many fast travel methods, or simply steal somebody else’s horse and ride there.
