Cigarette cards are a type of collectible in Red Dead Redemption 2. You’ll get one in each premium cigarette pack. You’ll find these expensive smokes scattered around the map (which is huge), and there’s probably an achievement / trophy tied to getting all of them. However, don’t expect the search to be easy – cigarette packs are relatively small, and Rockstar are known for not helping players find collectables. It’s going to be a tough time. That’s why we’ve decided to write this Red Dead Redemption 2 cigarette card locations guide.
Where to find cigarette cards in RDR2?
We still don’t even know how many cigarette cards will be in the game, but it’s not going to be less than twelve. If you check out the Red Dead Redemption 2 collector’s box (the super fancy, expensive edition), you’ll notice it comes with twelve physical cigarette cards. We presume these are adorned with art from the game, stuff like portraits, caricatures, landscapes and other illustrations. They’re probably going to be copies of the collectibles you’ll get from Premium Cigarette Packs. This would mean there’s at least twelve, but around twenty is a realistic prognosis. There could be up to fifty, though, so be prepared for that too.
Players are used to finding collectibles only to get an achievement or trophy, and no in-game rewards whatsoever. We’re hoping Rockstar is better than that. They used to be – GTA games always rewarded players for getting collectibles. If they continue down that road, we might get a unique outfit, something like a Marlboro Man costume. Or maybe a lunge cancer gun, which shoots smoke and coughs violently whenever you pull the trigger. The point is, if previous Rockstar games are anything to go by, there will be rewards for the persistent and eagle eyed.
It doesn’t seem like we’ll be able to smoke the cigarettes themselves, which is kinda sad. Everybody knows cool guys smoke – just look at every single iteration of Snake ever. Old Snake even has a pocket ashtray, because cool guys don’t litter. Blue Shirt Guy, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to smoke.
It’ll be interesting to see whether the cards have any role in RDR Online. It would be awesome if the devs allowed us to get duplicates, then go online and trade them with other players to complete the collection. Imagine running out of a bank after a successful robbery, only do stop dead in your tracks because you noticed someone in the town square, advertising their super rare card, exactly the one you’re missing.
How to get premium cigarette packs in RDR?
Obviously, finding them in the tall prairie grass and in saddlebags belonging to recently deceased men is a given. Most, if not all, of them will be just lying around at various locations. If the devs want to spice things up a bit, they’re going to place at least a few in a different way. For example, they could have one or two at a luxury goods vendor – these are premium tobacco products, after all.
Hopefully we’ll get some as quest rewards two. Maybe there’s an inventor working on the world’s first vaping device somewhere in the wild west, and if you help them get their invention off the ground, they’ll give you their old pack of Really Expensive Ciggies, since they won’t need them anymore. Or maybe you’ll just get them along with other, more traditional rewards after you help someone achieve their other, more traditional western dreams of getting rich or killing a person.
If you end up getting stuck at another point, you might want to check out some of the other guides we have. We've written about mysteries like the missing person Gavin, the Rhodes Gunsmith prisoner, the locked door at Valentine doctor. We also have instructional guides that show how to rob stores without getting bounty or where to sell jewelry and gold bars. If it's collectibles or key items you're after, we've found all the Penny Dreadful comic books, Chick's treasure map location, or that famous pipe for Dutch. Finally, if you don't care to explore the map yourself, you could take a look at our Watson's Cabin and Catfish Jackson's Homestead locations guides.
