Destiny 2 Trailer Released, With Footage From Gameplay Premiere

Bungie have released a new trailer for Destiny 2. Well, it’s not really new – it’s mostly footage from the gameplay premiere, along with developer commentary. But it’s a prefect recap for all those who aren’t in the mood to spend a couple of hours to read everything we found out about the game from the livestream reveal. It covers all the most important changes, shows off some cool scenes and explains the plot.

First, there’s a quick story recap – a villain called Dominus Ghaul leads the Red Legion on an attack on the Tower. He steals the Traveler, instantly robbing all guardians of their powers. Some of them manage to escape, including Cayde, Commander Zavala and Ikora Rey. They hide and lick their wounds, and start preparing to mount a counter attack. This is where you come in – your duty is to help retake what was lost and rebuild what was razed. The developers insist that Ghaul isn’t a psychopath, he’s just a poor, unfortunate soul who’s been through a lot and believes the world owes him something.

The trailer goes on to show a bunch of short gameplay clips, interspersed with cutscenes. The devs promise more cutscenes and story missions than before, new worlds to explore, new weapons and armor, new strikes and even one new raid. They also go into some detail about the weapon slots, but don’t say more than we’ve already discovered ourselves.

They briefly mention the new subclasses as well, talking mostly about the supers. Project lead Mark Noseworthy described the Arcstrider better than we ever could:

They summon this mystical staff and wield it like a crazy acrobat, cracking enemies in the head. It’s awesome.

Destiny 2 is going to be released on Playstation 4 and Xbox One on September 8th. The PC version will show up later – its launch date is still unknown. If you preorder the game, you’ll get early access to the beta which is supposed to take place this summer.
